In line with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to assist those affected by recent calamities, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has extended the validity of motor vehicle registrations and driver’s licenses that expired on September 30.
The move, carried out under the guidance of Acting Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Giovanni Z. Lopez, aims to provide relief to motorists affected by the series of typhoons and the recent earthquake in Cebu.
LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II, issued a memorandum to all regional directors and district office heads directing the implementation of the extension.
According to the memorandum, the validity of affected registrations and licenses is extended until October 15, with no penalties to be imposed on vehicle owners or driver’s license holders.
“This is in consideration of the work suspensions caused by heavy rains brought by the Southwest Monsoon and Typhoons Nando, Opong, and Paulo, as well as the devastating earthquake that struck Cebu,” Mendoza said.
He added that the extension serves as the agency’s way of supporting the President’s call to ease the burden of affected citizens.
Mendoza also announced that the 15-day settlement period for traffic apprehension cases, which began on September 26, is likewise extended until October 15.
