Top officials of the Land Transportation Office (LTO), led by Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II, have forged an alliance with various transport groups to improve motor vehicle insurance benefits and streamline the claims process.
During the second round of public consultations with transport stakeholders, Asec. Mendoza pledged swift action against unauthorized sellers of Compulsory Third Party Liability (CTPL) insurance, addressing concerns raised by insurance industry representatives.
The consultation aimed to gather insights and recommendations to enhance government land transportation services, a key priority of DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon. Discussions highlighted the need for increased insurance benefits and a faster, more efficient claims process.
Key proposed reforms include:
- Higher Insurance Benefits – To provide better coverage for policyholders.
- Faster and More Convenient Claims Processing – Ensuring claim payments are prompt and hassle-free.
- Immediate Correction of Encoding Errors – Eliminating delays caused by incorrect insurance data.
- Removal of the Participation Fee – Making the claims process more accessible.
“This productive dialogue aligns with our goal—especially under the leadership of our new DOTr Secretary Dizon—to engage stakeholders and implement measures that benefit the public,” Asec. Mendoza said.
He also assured insurance companies that he would oversee operations against unauthorized CTPL sellers, including deploying mystery customers to identify violators for enforcement actions.
“With your support and continued coordination, we can drive meaningful reforms to improve the land transportation experience of our kababayan,” he told transport group leaders and industry representatives.
Attendees included key figures from transport cooperatives, insurance companies, and major public transport organizations, demonstrating broad sectoral support for these reforms.
