Cooler Days ahead: Amihan strengthens, Quadrantid meteor shower visible

FILIPINOS can expect cooler weather in the coming days as the Northeast Monsoon, or Amihan, strengthens, according to weather report on Thursday.

PAGASA data indicates that the peak of cold weather in the Philippines, especially in Luzon, typically occurs from January to February.

The Metra Weather Wind Forecast Map shows that the Northeast Monsoon winds may dominate over the next few days. Historically, the coldest temperature ever recorded in the country was 6.3°C in Baguio City on January 18, 1961.

In addition to the chilly weather, PAGASA reported that the interaction between the Northeast Monsoon and easterlies has formed a Shear Line, resulting in rainfall across various regions.

Sky watchers are also in for a treat as the Quadrantid Meteor Shower graces the night sky. With over 100 meteors per hour at its peak, the best viewing opportunity is before 5 a.m. on Friday.
