Pangandaman calls for collective action against corruption on International Anti-Corruption Day

BUDGET Secretary Amenah “Mina” Pangandaman marked International Anti-Corruption Day with a powerful call to action, urging Filipinos to uphold transparency, integrity, and accountability as part of a collective effort to eradicate corruption.

“Corruption undermines the very foundations of democracy and the rule of law. It erodes public trust, stifles economic development, and perpetuates inequality and injustice,” Secretary Pangandaman stated. She emphasized the need for public servants to lead by example and foster a culture of ethical governance.

Government’s Anti-Corruption Initiatives

Under the leadership of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr., the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has made significant strides in combating corruption. Key initiatives include:

Digitalization: Modernizing government systems to enhance transparency and minimize opportunities for corrupt practices.

Open Governance: Promoting public participation to ensure accountability.

Legislative Reforms: Implementing the New Government Procurement Act, hailed as the country’s largest anti-corruption measure, which streamlines processes and integrates digital bidding and payment systems.

These efforts align with the administration’s broader Agenda for Prosperity, aiming to build trust in government institutions and drive sustainable development.

Youth at the Forefront of Change

This year’s theme, “Uniting with Youth Against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity,” highlights the critical role of young people in fostering a corruption-free future. Secretary Pangandaman called on the youth to take an active role in promoting integrity and to hold public officials accountable.

“Our actions, no matter how small, can contribute to a larger movement,” she said. “Let us work together to ensure a brighter, corruption-free tomorrow for the next generation.”

A Nationwide Pledge

As the country observes International Anti-Corruption Day, Secretary Pangandaman urged all Filipinos to reflect on their role in combating corruption. She encouraged public servants to prioritize ethical leadership and citizens to engage in vigilant oversight.

“This day is a strong reminder of our shared responsibility. Let us stand together and pledge to work towards a future free from corruption,” she concluded.
