PHASE 1 of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 1 Cavite Extension is set to begin partial operations this November, Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista confirmed on Thursday.
Speaking at a Palace briefing, Bautista shared that the extension would open in two to three weeks.
“We are excited to share that LRT-1 Cavite Extension Phase 1 is all set to open this month. This project is expected to bring significant benefits to commuters, including reduced travel time, improved air quality, and economic growth in the region,” said Enrico Benipayo, President and CEO of the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC), during the briefing.
“We look forward to celebrating this milestone as a testament to the unwavering commitment of LRMC and our partners to provide a world-class transportation solution to the Filipino people,” he added.
The extension’s Phase 1 includes five new stations: Redemptorist–Aseana, MIA Road, PITX, Ninoy Aquino Avenue, and Dr. Santos (formerly Sucat) Station. Each station is equipped with elevators, escalators, and tactile guides to support passengers with special needs.
Once operational, the new segment is expected to reduce travel time from Quezon City to Parañaque City to less than an hour.
Currently, integration and commissioning work is ongoing to ensure smooth operations between the existing LRT-1 system and the extended line.
The extension also features automated entrance gates, ticket vending machines, and teller booths, all of which have been installed and tested to improve convenience for passengers.
