PCG assists in rescue of alleged trafficking in person victims

THE Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) provided assistance to an incident wherein they helped rescue six people, four females and two males, allegedly victims of Trafficking in Person (TIP) aboard the MV Everqueen of Asia in waters off the vicinity of Bongao, Tawi-Tawi Friday of last week.

The passenger ferry departed the Port of Siasi, Sulu en route to the Port of Bongao in Tawi-Tawi.

The Municipal Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-trafficking (MIACAT) in Bongao said the six individuals admitted they were travelling to work in Kunnak and Kota Kinabalu in Sabah, Malaysia, via a backdoor channel without the necessary documents.

They were brought to the Tawi-Tawi Maritime Police Station for documentation and were turned over to the Ministry of Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) in Bongao for counselling and stress debriefing.
