COVID-19 infections today shoot up slightly to 941 new cases

THE Department of Health (DOH) today logged only 941 new COVID-19 infections compared to yesterday’s 853 cases, based on the DOH COVID-19 Case Bulletin issued today, March 5, 2022.

Overall, the number of COVID-19 infections in the country is now at 3,666,678 cases.

Active cases dropped slightly to 49,374 cases today from yesterday’s 50,230. Active cases are patients undergoing treatment in government hospitals and temporary quarantine facilities

Recoveries from COVID-19 today, however, went back up to 1,784 cases from yesterday’s 1,062 count, pushing overall COVID-19 recoveries in the country to 3,560,425 cases.

Also, COVID-19 deaths shot slid to only 109 cases today compared to yesterday’s high of 232, which means the total number of COVID-19 deaths is now at 56,879.

Positivity rate today, meanwhile, went down further to 3.8 percent from yesterday’s 4.3 percent and with 26,737 people tested.

Also, 91.1 percent of the cases were mild and asymptomatic, the DOH bulletin noted.

A total of 10 duplicates were removed from the total case count, and all 10 were recoveries.

Also, 96 cases tagged earlier as recoveries were reclassified as deaths upon final validation.

All laboratories were operational on March 3, 2022, and only one laboratory was not able to submit its data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS). According to data in the last 14 days, the one laboratory contributes, on average, 0.5 percent of samples tested and 0.2 percent of positive individuals.

Further, data from March 3 is used for healthcare utilization figures due to a shift in version in DOH Data Collect.

The agency continues to remind the public not to become complacent against the threat of COVID-19 and make it a habit to follow the minimum public health standards and to always wear face masks, and also face shields when in medical facilities, maintain physical distancing and frequently wash hands. At the onset of symptoms, immediately isolate and undergo testing. Remember to be tested at the right time, and to be vaccinated in order to receive added protection against COVID-19.
