A PROPOSED measure urging departments, offices and other similar agencies in government to save on their electricity consumption through the use of renewable energy was filed today in Congress.
The bill, House Bill 10687 or the proposed “Government Electricity Consumption Act,” called on the government to set an example or take the lead in pushing for conservation in the consumption of electricity and achieve the climate goals as stated in the Renewable Energy Act of 2008.
The measure proposes to make it mandatory for agencies, bureaus and offices of the government, including offices of local government units and government-owned and controlled corporations, to make sure that not less than 10 percent of their electricity supply be sourced from renewable energy resources.
Among possible renewable energy sources include biomass, solar, wind, geothermal, ocean energy, and hydropower.
The percentage will be increased after every three years, and to be determined by the Department of Energy.
