DOH records 492 new cases of Omicron variant in the country

THE Department of Health (DOH) recorded 492 new cases with the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in the country.

The new cases were recorded based on the 715 samples in the last batch that underwent whole genome sequencing last January 13 at 14, where 492 cases of the Omicron variant variant, 115 were Delta and one Alpha variant.

For the Omicron variant, 332 were local cases while 160 came from Returning Overseas Filipinos (ROFs).

From the 332 local cases, 227 were from the National Capital Region (NCR), 76 cases in CALABARZON, 11 cases in Central Luzon, five cases in Central Visayas, and two each for Cagayan Valley, Western Visayas, Davao Region, SOCCSKSARGEN, and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), and one case each from the Ilocos Region, MIMAROPA, and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

Based on the case line list, three of the cases are still active, two died, 467 have already recovered while 20 cases are still being verified.

Overall, there are now 535 confirmed Omicron variant cases in the country.

Meanwhile, 115 were added to the list of Delta variant cases in the country, wherein 88 are local cases and 27 from ROFs.

With this, there are now a total of 8,612 confirmed Delta variant cases in the Philippines.

One Alpha variant case was added to the list of recoveries, bringing the total to 3,170 cases recorded in the country.
