QCPD holds final security coordination meeting ahead of SONA 2025

QUEZON CITY — The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) on Friday hosted the Final Inter-Agency Coordinating Conference to finalize security preparations for the upcoming 4th State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

The conference, held at the QCPD Hinirang Social Hall, was presided over by Police Major General Anthony Aberin, Regional Director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO). The event gathered key officials from various government agencies and law enforcement units involved in securing the annual address scheduled for later this month.

Discussions focused on deployment strategies, coordination protocols, and joint response mechanisms to ensure a peaceful and orderly conduct of the President’s address.

After the conference, participating agencies conducted contingency planning, simulation drills, and tabletop exercises aimed at testing preparedness and identifying potential challenges during the event.

QCPD District Director Police Colonel Randy Glenn Silvio, in his opening remarks, highlighted the significance of coordinated planning, saying the exercises were designed to strengthen systems, clarify responsibilities, and ensure unity of action in safeguarding not only national leaders but also democratic institutions.

PMGEN Aberin directed the intensification of checkpoint operations in coordination with the Highway Patrol Group (HPG), Land Transportation Office (LTO), and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB). He emphasized that the role of law enforcement is to maintain peace while respecting democratic rights.

PMGEN Napoleon Taas (Ret.), Sergeant-at-Arms of the House of Representatives, stressed the importance of unity and inter-agency cooperation, calling the SONA security effort a “whole-of-government responsibility.”

PBGEN Elmo San Diego (Ret.), Head of the Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS), reminded law enforcement to strike a balance between public safety and the right to peaceful assembly during SONA-related rallies and gatherings.

The QCPD reaffirmed its commitment to uphold public safety and ensure the smooth conduct of national events through unified and strategic operations.
