The Cebuana Lhuillier-backed Unified Tennis Philippines (UTP) National Team concluded its highly successful two-leg Malaysian tour with a remarkable haul of titles, demonstrating the rising caliber of Filipino junior tennis on the international stage.
Competing in Perlis, Malaysia, the UTP squad left an indelible mark, claiming six singles championships and three doubles titles across the 14U, 16U, and 18U Boys and Girls divisions. Meanwhile, South Korea secured the 10U and 12U Boys and Girls categories, providing strong competition for the young Filipino athletes.
Beyond the trophies, the tour emphasized the personal growth and development of the players. Jean Henri Lhuillier, UTP President and Cebuana Lhuillier President and CEO, highlighted the broader impact of the campaign, saying, “May this milestone inspire them to push harder and prepare for even bigger stages in the years to come. Their journey reflects the limitless potential of Filipino youth when given the chance to shine.”
The Malaysian campaign underscores UTP’s commitment to nurturing promising junior tennis talent. The program serves as a platform for athletes who excel in the Cebuana Lhuillier Tennis Tour and other UTP-sanctioned competitions across the Philippines. Top performers from Luzon and VisMin regions earn spots in the UTP Elite Eight, where finalists and champions secure a place on the national team.
In singles, the Filipino contingent produced exceptional results: 14U Boys champion Claudwin Toñacao, 14U Girls champion Kathlyn Bugna, 16U Boys champion Matt Morris, 16U Girls champion Cadee Jan Dagoon, 18U Boys champion Juvels Velos, and 18U Girls champion AJ Acabo led the charge. Other finalists included Enzo Niere (10U Boys), EG Niere (14U Boys), Mitch Cruspero (14U Girls), Marwin Plata (16U Boys), and Cielo Gonzales (18U Girls).
The doubles action also highlighted Filipino teamwork and skill, with 14U Girls champions Kathlyn Bugna and Mitch Cruspero, 16U Boys champions Matt Morris and Marwin Plata, and 18U Boys champions Ariel Cabaral and Juvels Velos. The success of the UTP National Team in Malaysia not only brought home medals but also reinforced the growing prominence of Philippine junior tennis internationally. Through programs backed by Cebuana Lhuillier, these young athletes gain invaluable experience, confidence, and the opportunity to represent the country with distinction.
