Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez has expressed deep sorrow and condemnation over the fatal shooting of Director Mauricio “Morrie” Pulhin, Chief of Technical Staff of the House Committee on Ways and Means, who was gunned down over the weekend in an attack that has shocked both his family and the congressional community.
In a public statement, Speaker Romualdez mourned the loss of Pulhin, whom he described as a “long-serving and dedicated public servant” known for his professionalism, integrity, and quiet commitment to his duties in the House of Representatives.
“I am deeply saddened and outraged by the tragic death of Director Mauricio ‘Morrie’ Pulhin,” said Romualdez. “We condemn this brutal act of violence in the strongest possible terms.”
While details surrounding the killing remain unclear, the House leader called on law enforcement agencies—including the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI)—to pursue a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident.
“All angles must be pursued—including, but not limited to, his professional affiliations—so that the truth may come out and justice may be served,” he stressed.
Romualdez also extended his deepest sympathies to Pulhin’s bereaved family, assuring them of the House’s full support during this time of immense loss.
“To Director Pulhin’s family: we offer our deepest condolences. We stand with you in this time of unimaginable pain. And we will do everything in our power to ensure that those responsible—whether gunmen or masterminds—are identified and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” he said.
Addressing the House Secretariat and members of the legislative community, Romualdez urged unity and vigilance in the face of this tragedy.
“Let us channel our grief and anger into an unwavering demand for justice—not only for Director Pulhin, but for every Filipino who falls victim to senseless violence,” he said.
As investigations proceed, members of Congress and staff continue to mourn the loss of a colleague whose contributions and character left a lasting impact on the institution.
