THE Quezon City Police District (QCPD) celebrated its 85th Founding Anniversary today at the M.I.C.E Center, Quezon City Hall.
The event, themed “Tayo ang QCPD: May Dangal, Disiplina at Kasanayan, Kaagapay ng Pamayanan Tungo sa Ligtas at Maunlad na Bukas”, was led by Acting District Director P/COL Melecio M. Buslig, Jr. and attended by esteemed officials and guests.
Highlighting the occasion was Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, who graced the event as Guest of Honor and Speaker.
She commended the QCPD for its commitment to ensuring peace and order in the city, delivering an inspiring speech that underscored the responsibilities carried by law enforcement.
“With great power comes great responsibility,” Belmonte remarked, emphasizing the values of dangal, disiplina, and kasanayan promoted by the QCPD. She also expressed gratitude for the leadership of PCOL Buslig and the tireless efforts of the district’s personnel in maintaining Quezon City’s security.
Recognitions and Awards
The event was marked by the presentation of plaques and recognitions to outstanding personnel, units, and stakeholders who contributed to the district’s success. Key individual awardees included:
PLTCOL Vicente L. Bumalay, Jr. as Best District Directorial Staff Officer of the Year
PLTCOL Romil C. Avenido as Best Station Commander of the Year
PMAJ Don Don M. Llapitan as Best Police Commissioned Officer of the Year
PEMS Nestor De Guzman as Best Senior PNCO of the Year
PCpl Mary Kris Aguirre as Best Junior PNCO of the Year
NUP Agnes Flores as Best Non-Uniformed Personnel of the Year
PLTCOL Leonie Ann Dela Cruz received the prestigious Gawad Maria Josefina “Joy” G. Belmonte Award as Policewoman of the Year.
Unit awards included:
Batasan Police Station (PS 6) as Best Police Station of the Year
Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) and District Anti-Carnapping Unit (DACU) as Best District Operating Units
District Medical and Dental Unit (DMDU) as Best National Administrative Support Unit
CIDG-District Field Unit (DFU) as Best National Operational Support Unit.
Special recognitions were also awarded to individuals and organizations, including key Quezon City departments, private stakeholders, and community partners, for their support of QCPD initiatives.
Acknowledging Partnerships and Support
The QCPD expressed its gratitude to its community stakeholders, such as the Quezon City Anti-Drug Abuse Advisory Council (QCADAAC), Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (QCDRRMO), and the 22nd Quezon City Council, among others. Mayor Belmonte was also honored with a special Plaque of Appreciation for her unwavering support.
Buslig, in his address, praised the dedication of the police force, stating:
“Your discipline, professionalism, and sacrifices make Quezon City safer for everyone. Thank you for your commitment to peace, order, and safety.”
The program also featured audio-visual presentations of the QCPD’s yearly accomplishments and performances, including an impressive number by Pat Paele John P. Curaming, champion of the Singing Cops of the Philippines 2024.
The 85th Founding Anniversary was a testament to the QCPD’s enduring commitment to serving and protecting Quezon City, solidifying its reputation as a pillar of public safety and community partnership.
