SEVERAL law enforcement agencies in the transport sector conducted aggressive operations against “colorum” vehicles where it levied a total of P13.6 million in penalties.
The sweeping crackdown was carried out by operatives of the Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (SAICT), Land Transportation Office (LTO), and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) against public utility vehicle (PUV) operators and drivers conducting illegal operations.
The substantial fines of P200,000 per van and P1 million per bus imposed on offenders reflect the government’s unwavering commitment to prioritizing road safety for all commuters.
Under the direction of Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime Bautista, the recent campaign targeted unauthorized PUVs with the sole purpose of safeguarding the welfare of road users.
From December 01 to 16, the joint government team collared 28 units deemed operating as “colorum” vehicles and were immediately impounded.
The DOTr anticipates that more illegal and unregistered vehicles will be exposed as their intensified campaign continues.
To this end, SAICT is urging the public to report any suspicious or unauthorized transportation services to the DOTr Commuter Hotline 0920-964-3687, contributing to the overall efforts in dismantling the colorum network in the metropolis.
