Military veterans to receive additional disability pension with new law

MILITARY veterans with disabilities will receive an additional disability pension under a new law signed recently by President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.

Republic Act No. 11958, or the “Act Rationalizing the Disability Pension of Veterans, Amending For The Purpose Republic Act No. 6948, Entitled, An Act Standardizing and Upgrading The Benefits For Military Veterans And Their Dependents, As Amended,” was signed on August 24, Thursday.

The law was authored by Bataan 1st District Representative Geraldine Roman, who announced the good news on her Facebook page on Wednesday.

RA No. 11958 aims to provide a monthly disability pension to a veteran who is disabled due to sickness, disease, wounds, or injuries sustained in the line of duty

Roman said that under the new law, veterans will receive an additional disability pension depending on their disability rating.

The additional pension ranges from P4,500 for those with a 10 to 30-percent disability rating to P10,000 for those with a 91 to 100-percent disability rating. The latter also includes an additional P1,000 for the surviving spouse and each unmarried minor child of the veteran.

Roman pointed out that she had been fighting for this cause since she was the chairperson of the House of Representatives’ Committee on Veterans Affairs.

This is my humble gratitude and recognition for your sacrifice and your service!” Roman said.
