LTFRB to fast-track resolution of pending petitions in line with President Marcos’ directive

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has committed to expedite the resolution of all pending petitions and pleadings within the agency, in line with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to improve public transportation services.

Under the guidance of Acting Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Giovanni Lopez Lopez, LTFRB Chairman Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II said an initial assessment revealed that it currently takes months before petitions and other pleadings are resolved.

Mendoza noted that numerous petitions remain pending, affecting the livelihood of operators and drivers whose income depends on the timely resolution of issues related to routes and other transport matters.

“Babaguhin na po natin ang ganyang sistema dahil kung hindi natin gagawin yan ngayon, kailan pa? At kailan pa uusad ang mga petition ninyo?” Mendoza told transport groups in a recent meeting.

He vowed to clear the backlog and resolve all pending cases by the third week of November this year, assuring that prolonged petition processing—sometimes taking years—will soon be a thing of the past in the LTFRB.

According to Mendoza, this initiative supports President Marcos’ directive for government agencies to listen and take concrete steps to address the concerns of those in the public transport sector.

“Yung pagpapatagal ng mga petisyon minsan nagiging prone yan sa corruption. Kaya mas bibilisan natin para less human intervention at may assurance of no corruption,” Mendoza said.

He also appealed to transport stakeholders to do their part in eradicating corruption by refusing to yield to any illegal demands within the agency.

“All I ask from your part is to refrain from being an enabler of corruption. Kung magbibigay kayo, paano natin matatanggal ang maling sistemang yan?” he emphasized.

To speed up processing, Mendoza urged transport groups to list down and submit all their pending petitions and pleadings for immediate retrieval and action.

“Magtulungan tayo sa adhikain natin na maging maayos ang sistema sa LTFRB, dahil hindi lang ang mga operator at driver ang makikinabang dito kundi pati ang milyun-milyong commuter,” he concluded.
