Mary Mediatrix Medical Center Unveils P500M Expansion to Boost Healthcare & Jobs in Southern Luzon

Mary Mediatrix Medical Center (Mediatrix) has officially inaugurated its PHP500 million expansion building in Batangas, marking a milestone investment that promises to transform healthcare services and generate new employment opportunities across Southern Luzon.

The expansion is part of the hospital’s broader mission to address critical healthcare needs in the CALABARZON region, which ranks second only to Metro Manila in the number of heart attack cases. To meet this urgent demand, Mediatrix recently installed its second catheterization laboratory (cath lab) machine — making it the only hospital in the region to operate two such facilities. This move is expected to improve patient survival rates and strengthen the hospital’s reputation as a premier cardiac care center.

The half-billion-peso investment includes both the new building and advanced, international-standard medical equipment. Beyond improving healthcare outcomes, the expansion also brings significant economic benefits to Batangas. Mediatrix has begun hiring 120 new nurses, a development that provides much-needed job opportunities for local healthcare professionals.

“This investment is a strategic move by Mary Mediatrix Medical Center & Mount Grace Hospitals to increase capacity and reinforce its top standing in healthcare in Southern Luzon,” according to Jose Ronaldo H. De Los Santos, President and CEO of Mary Mediatrix Medical Center. Mount Grace Hospitals is one of the country’s largest hospital networks with 25 partners nationwide.

The new building was designed with international standards in mind, ensuring safety, adaptability, and resilience. Its structure can even function as a self-contained isolation unit during future public health emergencies. Among its features are 40 modern patient rooms, an urgent care facility that will expand into a larger Emergency Department, a Wellness Center tailored for VIP patients, and an 8-bed Neurological Intensive Care Unit (Neuro ICU) under the hospital’s new Neuroscience Center or “Brain Institute.”

With these developments, Mediatrix is positioning itself as the largest private hospital in Southern Luzon. The hospital is currently applying for a 210-bed capacity, aiming to expand to 240 beds by early next year and 300 beds by 2030. This trajectory underscores Mediatrix’s vision to become the region’s referral center for specialized care.

To strengthen its cardiac services, Mediatrix launched the Code HB – “Heart of Batangas” Program in August. This initiative, the first of its kind in the Philippines, establishes referral partnerships with hospitals across Southern Luzon, training them to administer critical interventions before transferring patients to Mediatrix for advanced treatment.

“Our bias for quick action and response to our patients’ and communities’ needs shows that our patients are always at the center of every decision we make, even if it means a significant increase in resources. This is what you can expect of Mary Mediatrix, and this is what we demand of ourselves,” said Allan Almazar, SVP for Operations.

Mediatrix also plans to affiliate with 20 to 30 new doctors each year across various specialties — including cardiology, oncology, endocrinology, pediatrics, gastroenterology, and surgery — as it prepares to adopt robotic medical procedures.
