House resolution urges quick distribution of fuel subsidy for PUV drivers

HOUSE Resolution 2515 was filed today at the Lower House that urges the government to fast-track the processing and distribution of the fuel subsidy for Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) drivers amidst the continued spike in prices of petroleum products.

The resolution states that the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) should act quickly so that PUV drivers will get and benefit immediately from the fuel subsidy.

It further added that there is a P5-billion budget allotted for the subsidy under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2022.

However, the resolution stated that the distribution of the subsidy is taking too long because of the many requirements being asked from the drivers and operators.

The resolution warned that because of the continuing and escalating tension between Russia and Ukraine, prices of oil products are expected to increase further and will surely result to more burdens for drivers of public transportation that is yet to recover from the adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Yesterday, oil companies implemented a big-time price hike in their products such as diesel with a P13 increase per liter, and more than P7 per liter price increase for gasoline.
