THE Philippine National Police (PNP) on Sunday announced two more fatalities among the police due to the Coronavirus disease 2019.
This means the total number of PNP deaths due to COVID-19 already reached 91 fatalities.
In a report, the PNP Health Service (PNPHS) said Patient 90 was a 49-year-old Police Captain assigned in Northern Mindanao while Patient 91 is a 51-year-old Police Executive Master Sergeant assigned in CALABARZON.
Based on medical records, Patient 90 experienced cough and fever on July 26-28. He was advised to isolate and undergo an RT-PCR test which yielded positive results. On July 30, he was admitted to a nearby hospital and underwent a chest tube thoracostomy.
On August 5, his oxygen level continued to decrease and at about 4 a.m. of August 6, said police personnel was declared dead by his attending physician.
Meanwhile, Patient 91 was admitted to a nearby hospital on August 9 due to COVID-19 symptoms and after two days of hospitalization, on August 11, he was declared dead by his attending physician.
A post mortem examination and swab test was conducted on the said police personnel and tested positive of COVID-19.
Patient 91 has received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on July 19.
“Ang buong hanay po ng Pambansang Pulisya ay nagluluksa sa pagpanaw ng dalawa pa naming kabaro. Hindi madali at buhay ang inaalay ng ating mga pulis na nasa frontline at patuloy na nagbabantay upang hindi muling kumalat ang naturang virus,” according to PNP Chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar.
“Tayo po ay nagpapaabot ng taos-pusong pakikiramay sa mga pamilya ng ating pulis na namatay at nangangako na maibigay sa kanila ang anumang pinansyal na tulong,” Eleazar added.
As of August 15, PNPHS tallied 131 new cases in the police force bringing the total cases to 32,364 with 1,959 active cases, while 85 new recoveries were logged raising the total number of recovered personnel to 30,314.
Further, the PNP has 77,735 or 35.05 percent fully vaccinated police personnel while 90,230 or 40.68 percent have already received their first dose of vaccine.
With this, there was only 53,817 or 24.27 percent remaining in the country’s police personnel who has not been vaccinated.
