THE United States government, through the Department of Defense and the US Army Civil Affairs Team, in collaboration with the US Embassy in Manila and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), turned over today 420 units of intensive care unit (ICU) beds to the Department of Health (DOH).
The 400 units were allocated to regional hospitals while the 20 units were given to the Armed Forces of the Philippines military hospitals. The turnover coincided with the courtesy visit of Sean Callahan, Acting USAID Mission Director.

This initiative will greatly improve the health care capacity of the country to manage critical cases, as part of its fight against COVID-19. On behalf of the Department of Health (DOH), the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases, and the Filipino people, DOH Secretary Dr. Francisco Duque III thanked the United States Embassy, headed by Charge D’affaires John Law for their tireless support to the Philippine government.
