Lower active case count, higher recoveries registered today

Though the number of COVID-19 cases in the country continues its march to the 1-million range, a lower active case count and higher recoveries were recorded today, according to the latest case bulletin issued by the Department of Health (DOH).

In the latest DOH COVID-19 Case Bulletin # 404, 17,138 were recorded as recoveries, the fifth straight day that recoveries were at the thousands, to bring total recoveries to an 846,691 overall count. Active cases, on the other hand, recorded a low 107,988 total count.

An additional 8,767 new COVID-19 cases were added today to bring the overall case count to a 971,049 total.

There were also 105 deaths, which means there are now 16,370 people who have already died from the COVID-19 disease,

The DOH noted that 25 duplicates were removed from the total case count, with 12 registered as recoveries.

Also, 43 cases previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

One laboratory was not operational on April 20, 2021, and five laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS).

The DOH continues to remind the public to follow public health standards such as proper wearing of face masks and face shields, washing of hands, and physical distancing as these are proven to prevent further transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and its variants, which causes the COVID-19 disease.
