Rep. Khonghun warns public against fake quote cards amid Typhoon Uwan relief efforts

Zambales First District Representative and Deputy Speaker Jefferson “Jay” Khonghun has warned the public against believing and sharing fake quote cards circulating on social media that falsely attribute statements to him.

“It has come to our attention that certain social media posts are falsely attributing a statement to Deputy Speaker Jay Khonghun regarding the whereabouts of an individual. The Deputy Speaker has issued no such statement in any official or unofficial capacity,” his office clarified in a statement.

Khonghun’s office emphasized that he and his team are currently focused on relief operations for families affected by Super Typhoon Uwan (#UwanPH), rather than engaging in any unrelated public statements.

“We urge the public to verify information from credible sources and remain vigilant against such deceptive posts,” the statement added.

In a personal message, the congressman reminded the public that this is a time for unity and compassion, not misinformation.

“Panahon po ngayon para magtulungan, hindi para gumawa ng kwento o magpalabas at magpakalat ng quote card na peke. Mag-ingat po tayo sa fake news. Patuloy tayong magbantay at maging maagap sa paparating na bagyo. Ingat po tayong lahat,” he said.

Amid his appeal for vigilance, Khonghun personally joined relief distribution efforts with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), providing ready-to-eat (RTE) meal boxes to evacuees staying at the DRRMO evacuation center in Old Cabalan Barangay Hall, Olongapo City.

He also extended assistance to evacuees from Barangay Balaybay in Castillejos, alongside Mayor Jeff Khonghun and the DSWD, ensuring the safety of residents in landslide-prone areas.

The lawmaker expressed gratitude to Barangay Captains Billy Capistrano and Jong Alba, as well as the rescue teams and health workers, for their continued dedication in protecting the people of Zambales.
