President Marcos grants P20,000 service recognition incentive to government workers

IN a bid to recognize the hard work and dedication of government employees, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has issued Administrative Order No. 27, granting a Service Recognition Incentive (SRI) of up to P20,000 for qualified state workers. The incentive is set to be released on or before December 15, 2024, providing a significant boost to public sector employees ahead of the holiday season.

According to the order, the incentive aims to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of government employees in delivering essential public services and advancing national goals. The grant will cover personnel in national government agencies, state universities and colleges, government-owned and controlled corporations, and local government units, subject to specific eligibility criteria and budgetary guidelines.

“The government recognizes the tireless efforts of its workers in maintaining efficient and effective public service delivery. This is our way of expressing gratitude for their commitment,” President Marcos stated in his directive.

Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman assured that funding for the SRI will be sourced from each agency’s existing budget allocations. Agencies with sufficient savings are encouraged to grant the maximum allowable amount, while those with limited resources may provide a proportionate incentive.

Meanwhile, labor groups have lauded the move, calling it a much-needed relief for workers amid rising inflation and economic challenges. However, they also urged the government to institutionalize regular benefits for public servants to ensure sustainable support for the workforce.

The SRI is part of the administration’s broader efforts to uplift morale and improve the well-being of government employees, underscoring their vital role in nation-building.
