Kids below 18 in China banned from playing online video games on weekdays

BEIJING— China has prohibited children below 18 years old from playing online video games during weekdays.

Playing during weekends, meanwhile, is limited to only three hours of gaming, which marks a significant ballooning up of restrictions on the country’s gaming industry.

According to the National Press and Publication Administration (NPPA), a Chinese media watchdog, minors can play during a window time of 8 p.m.-9 p.m. on Fridays, weekends, and public holidays.

Officials have mentioned that this move represents to halt young people from becoming addicted to online video games.

NPPA stated that this restriction was made at the beginning of the new semester to protect the growth as minors.

In a statement released by the NPPA, many parents have been suffering as their children’s addiction in online video games leads to serious problems in physical, mental, studies, and even in social activities.
