DOH dismisses social media claims of alleged International health concern

THE Department of Health (DOH) on Friday debunked social media reports about an alleged “international health concern,” labeling them as unverified and lacking credible evidence.

“Reliable sources of information currently do not support circulating social media posts about an alleged international health concern,” the DOH stated. It also confirmed that neither the World Health Organization (WHO) nor the mentioned country has issued any confirmation regarding the claims.

The rumors, which allege a new epidemic involving influenza A, HMPV, mycoplasma pneumoniae, and COVID-19 is overwhelming hospitals and crematories in China, have also been dismissed by the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines as “fake news.”

Disease Surveillance and Public Caution
The DOH reassured the public that the Philippines’ disease surveillance systems are operational and actively monitor health concerns in coordination with the WHO under the International Health Regulations (IHR).

“Our disease surveillance systems are in place and functioning. The DOH is actively verifying all information, and we will keep the public updated,” the agency said.

The DOH also urged the public to refrain from sharing dubious websites or online sources, warning against spreading misinformation and confusion.

The agency emphasized the importance of relying on official channels for accurate and timely updates on health matters.
