THE Department of Agriculture (DA) said agricultural damage and losses created by Typhoon Odette (international name: Rai) already reached P3.1 billion as of 12 pm today, December 23, 2021.
The new figure came about after a few days from the original estimates of P362.3 million as of 5 pm on Monday, December 20, 2021.
Commodities affected by Typhoon Odette’s destructive path were rice, corn, other high-value crops, livestock, and fisheries.
Damage has also been incurred in agricultural infrastructure, machineries and equipment, values that are still subject to validation.
The figure affected 39,372 farmers and fisherfolk, with volume of production loss already at 90,316 metric tons and affecting 65,432 hectares of agricultural areas in Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao, and Caraga regions.
