AboitizPower has reinforced its commitment to improving early-grade literacy by supporting a three-day Alpabasa training for teachers in Bataan, aimed at enhancing reading instruction among young Filipino learners.
The initiative was carried out in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) through the company’s Eskwelasugan Program.
Held from March 11 to 13, 2026 at Rancho Bernardo in Bagac, Bataan, the intensive training gathered educators from 15 AboitizPower-supported schools.
Additional participating schools were sponsored by the Read to Achieve Foundation Philippines Inc. (RAFPI). The sessions were facilitated by RAFPI Founder and Executive Director, Patricia Gonzalez-Cruz, in collaboration with Learning Lion’s Books Inc.
The program equipped educators with advanced strategies and essential instructional materials, including comprehensive teacher guides, learner activity sets, and storybooks.
These tools are designed to transform reading instruction and ensure learners build robust literacy skills during their most formative years.
According to DepEd-Bataan Superintendent Carolina Violeta, EdD CESO V, the Department of Education aims to train all Kindergarten teachers in Bataan under the Alpabasa Program so that learners develop early reading skills and are already well-prepared in reading by the time they reach Grade 1.
The first day of the event was marked by a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing between DepEd-Bataan and AboitizPower. Representing GMEC and GNPD was Reputation and Stakeholder Management (RSM) Manager Joseph Paolo Mendoza, who reaffirmed the company’s dedication to investing in the future of Filipino students.
The program concluded with the presence of RAFPI Board Member Annie Lim Kawpeng, who underscored the importance of multisectoral collaboration in education.
Beyond providing resources, this initiative represents a strategic investment in school-based interventions that address both the academic and well-being needs of the community.
By empowering teachers, AboitizPower and its partners are actively shaping a brighter, more literate future for the next generation.
