RGC Group, Uratex Philippines expand use of solar energy in its plants

The RGC Group of Companies continues to expand its solar power capability, particularly in its Canlubang plant where various RGC Group companies that cater to the automotive industry are located.

The system was formally turned over today by PV² Energie, a Germany-based renewable energy company, to the RGC Group during the solar power system turnover and commissioning ceremony held in Canlubang, Laguna today.

PV² Energie will power up the RGC Group of Companies plants through the installation of a photovoltaic (PV) system.

The project started 3 years ago when PV² Energie commenced the partnership with the RGC Group with its 500 kilowatt-peak (kWp) grid-tied PV system placed atop the company’s roof at the Uratex Philippines headquarters in Muntinlupa City.

“To fulfill the RGC Group of Companies’ promise to respect humanity, protect the environment, promote wellness, and invest for the future generations, we remain committed to creating a more sustainable business that participates in the global movement to use alternative sources of energy and be environmentally responsible especially in these trying times,” Eddie Gallor, Executive Vice President of the RGC Group of Companies, said during the ceremony.

Operating in Canlubang are the RGC Group member-companies such as Uratex Automotive Seating, INOAC Philippines, and Roberts Automotive and Industrial Parts Manufacturing Corporation (AIPMC).

Uratex Automotive Seating is the leading manufacturer of molded polyurethane foam products, integral skin and seat assembly in the country while INOAC Philippines is a joint venture between Inoac Corp. of Japan and the RGC Group. Roberts AIPMC, on the other hand, is one of the biggest automotive parts manufacturers in the industry.

Gallor added that the PV system installed at Uratex Canlubang plant will help the three member companies contribute to the reduction of carbon dioxide emission in the environment and reduce its power cost by an estimated 15 percent. He expounded that this green initiative of the company serves as its contribution to lessen its dependence on fossil fuel-generated energy which generally adds up to climate change concerns.

The PV² Energie has already installed several rooftop projects in the Philippines like the one found at the Bengar Industrial Corporation in Quezon City (100 kWp Net Metering), Oriental Tin Can and Metal Sheet Manufacturing, also in Quezon City (623 kWp) and Sanitary Care Products Asia (120 kWp) in Mabalacat, Pampanga. These partnership projects aim to ignite awareness among Filipinos to fully appreciate solar power technology especially when used for businesses.

After three years of operations, the Uratex Muntinlupa plant yielded a total output of an estimated 1.9 million kWh annually and saved around 3 million pesos on its electricity bill.

“We have just started a big leap to conserve energy and be part of the solution. We will do our best to explore more sustainable projects in the coming years,” ended Gallor.

The RGC Group of Companies is also eyeing to install a solar power facility in its remaining plants in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, slowly saturating its 22 bases nationwide in the next few years.

RGC Group of Companies is the mother company of Uratex Philippines, the country’s biggest foam and mattress manufacturer and one of the leading foam makers in Southeast Asia.
