Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Danilo Lim died this morning after testing positive for COVID-19, Malacañang said on Wednesday.
Lim “died before 8AM this morning at the age of 65,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a statement.
Actual cause of death is yet to be revealed. Lim said last December 29 that he tested positive for the COVID-19 virus, though he said his symptoms were mild and that he would go on isolation.
“MMDA Chair Lim served the Duterte Administration with professionalism, competence and integrity. He would be dearly missed,” Roque said in a statement.
“May the perpetual light shine upon him, and may his soul, through the mercy of the Almighty, rest in eternal peace,” he added.
Lim was appointed MMDA Chair by President Rodrigo Duterte in 2017, one of among former high-ranking military officials in the administration.
He was also former deputy commissioner for intelligence of the Bureau of Customs but resigned in 2013 and ran for the Senate back in 2010.
He also participated in military uprisings in the past, one against former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in 2006 and even against former President Corazon Aquino back in 1989.
