DPWH completed 3 river control projects in Zambales

THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) – Zambales 2nd District Engineering Office has completed the restoration of flood mitigation structures along theupstream section of the Camachile River in Castillejos, Zambales with a total length of 1,160
lineal meters.

District Engineer Rosbe S. Dizon said the safety of residents against flooding that is usually caused by the overflowing of the river is now ensured following the completion of the 3 rehabilitation projects funded at P75 million each.

“We are doing everything we can to help reduce the adverse effects of flooding by continually rehabilitating existing flood control structures located within our area of
responsibility,” Dizon explained.

Dizon also added that there are 12 barangays in Castillejos that experience different
levels of flooding such as Brgy. Nagbunga which is a densely populated area located near theCamachile River.

“The proposal to rehabilitate the 3 flood control structures in the upstream section of
the Camachile River was made after we observed that it can no longer handle the high amounts of water that flows through the said waterway which often leads to flooding,” Dizon remarked.

These flood rehabilitation projects were given a total allocation of P240 million from the General Appropriations Act of 2022.
