THE Department of Health (DOH) estimates that COVID-19 cases may reach 17,105 daily by the end of July if the level of public compliance with minimum public health standards continue to go down.
According to DOH Undersecretary and spokesperson Maria Rosario Vergeire that based on projections by the Australian Tuberculosis Modeling Network (AuTuMN), compliance by the public with health protocols went down by 21 percent.
If the basis of this scenario is the low compliance with health protocols, the number of cases will surge to over 17,000 daily per day in July 31.
“Following the baseline scenario of 21 percent decline in our minimum public health standards from February 14, maaring umabot tayo sa 17,105 ang kaso kada araw sa katapusan ng Hulyo,” says Vergeire.
She also pointed out that if observance of health protocols will go down further to 22 percent, cases will reach 22,000 daily nationwide.
Another reason in the spike in cases is that vaccination remains low, waning immunity of vaccines, increased mobility of people, and the presence of new variants and subvariants of COVID-19.
“Maaring tumaas ang ating mga kaso kung mababawasan ang pagsunod natin sa minimum public health standards, gayundin kung hindi tayo magpapabakuna,” Vergeire pointed out.
