Comelec eyes partial proclamation of winning party-list groups

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) is considering a partial proclamation of winning party-list groups.

According to Comelec Acting Spokesperson Atty. John Rex Laudiangco, this is because special elections will be held in other areas and the poll body is studying whether it will affect the number of votes for party-list elections.

He said that if ever, the partial proclamation of winning party-list groups may coincide with the proclamation of the 12 winning senators.

As of now, there is no exact date yet of the proclamation since the canvassing is still ongoing and other Certificates of Canvass (COCs) are still being awaited.

He said the proclamation may happen on Sunday or early next week.

During the proclamation, in compliance with COVID-19 health protocols, there will be a limited number of companions allowed during the proclamation. Winning senators may bring only three companions and only two for winning party-list groups.

At around noon today, only 52 out of the 173 COCs still need to be canvassed. Of the 173, 37 COCs were manually prepared or were not transmitted electronically.

Of the 37 manually prepared COCs, majority of which came from Overseas Absentee Voting, 11 have already been brought to the National Canvassing Center at the Philippine International Convention Center, while the 26 other COCs are still being awaited.
