Cardinal Tagle appointed as special envoy of Pope Francis in huge bishops’ confab in Asia

CARDINAL Luis Antonio Tagle was named special envoy of Pope Francis in the biggest conference of bishops in Asia that will be held in Thailand.

This was announced by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) on Saturday, citing a bulletin issued by the Vatican.

The conference of Asian bishops will start on October 12 at the Baan Phu Waan Pastoral Center of the Archdiocese of Bangkok.

Cardinal Tagle is the pro-prefect of the Vatican’s Dicastery for Evangelization, and will be the main celebrant of the Mass that will conclude the 50th general conference of the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences (FABC) on October 30, 2022.

The conference’s theme for this year is “FABC 50: Journeying together as peoples of Asia …and they went a different way.” (Mt 2:12).

The FABC said the conference “will mirror the re-emerging and emerging truths and challenges of the church in Asia.”

The FABC was established back in 1970.
