THE Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) announced on Thursday the approval of 956 special permits for public utility vehicles (PUVs) to address the surge in holiday travel demand during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
LTFRB Chairperson Teofilo Guadiz III confirmed that 956 out of 988 PUVs that applied for the permits were approved. The special permits will be valid from December 20, 2024, to January 10, 2025.
“We are glad to announce that we have approved 956 special permits for PUVs this Christmas and during the first 10 days of 2025. They are expected to cater to more commuters this holiday rush, ensuring efficient and safe travels for all,” Guadiz said.
The LTFRB emphasized that granting these special permits is part of its regular holiday practice to accommodate the increased influx of travelers heading to and from provinces. The special permits allow PUVs, including buses, to operate on routes beyond their usual coverage to meet the high demand for transportation.
Chair Guadiz expressed optimism that the additional units will significantly ease the holiday travel burden for commuters.
“By doing this, we hope to contribute to a safer and merrier celebration for Filipinos this Christmas. Beyond adding more PUVs, we are also prioritizing the safety of these vehicles and ensuring that terminals are efficient and convenient for travelers,” he added.
The LTFRB’s initiative aims to ensure smooth, efficient, and safe transportation for the millions of Filipinos traveling to reunite with families and celebrate the holidays in their hometowns.
