Ceasefire announced by Russia starting Monday

THE Russian government said there will be a ceasefire starting on Monday and at the same time will open what it calls “humanitarian corridors” in several areas.

This development came a day after massive droves of Ukrainian civilians were seen fleeing to safety to avoid Russian shelling that pummeled cities Ukrainian cities in practically all directions.

A task force from Russia said the ceasefire will cover civilians from the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv, the southern port city of Mariupol; Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city; and Sumy.

There was no mention, however, if the ceasefire will also include areas other than those earlier mentioned, or if when the ceasefire would end.

It was reported that the ceasefire and the opening of corridors was due to a request from French President Emmanuel Macron, who earlier said he spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Russia-Ukraine conflict is currently on its 12th day.
